Why We Build Mobile Apps With Expo

One codebase for iPhone and Android, faster updates and lower costs: why Expo is our default for mobile apps.

When a client needs a mobile app, the first decision is how to build it. We almost always choose Expo, and here's why.

One Codebase, Two Platforms

Expo is built on React Native. We write the app once and ship it to both the App Store and Google Play. You don't pay for two separate apps, and both platforms get new features at the same time.

It Still Feels Native

React Native renders real native components, so scrolling, gestures and keyboards behave the way people expect on their phone. For most business apps, users can't tell the difference from a fully native build.

Faster Updates

Small fixes and content changes can reach users through over-the-air updates, without waiting for a full store review. Bigger releases still go through the stores, but the everyday fixes ship quickly.

What It's Great For

  • Business tools: bookings, catalogues, reference apps and member areas.
  • Offline use: data that's stored on the phone and works without a connection.
  • Many languages: one app that switches language with the phone.

When We'd Choose Something Else

Apps that are mostly heavy 3D, advanced camera processing or games can need a fully native approach. We'll tell you honestly if your idea is one of those.
